Ouch! Why the --allow-force? If there are package conflicts, those
should be resolved via bug reports, instead of suggesting the use of
the --allow-force option.

Using that in my Mandriva install caused a number of problems with

</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> been stated in many threads of this ML. Can this be improved? - certainly
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> not an issue for Beta 2.
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> Right now, the splitting of the handbook packages will use the same
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> bandwidth as before. As Anssi said, before the handbooks came bundled
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> with the owner package, so they were also being installed. So
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> bandwidth wise, is still the same as before the splitting.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> I haven't looked into it, but perhaps we could install those handbooks as
</I>&gt;<i> Suggests instead of Requires (or is it already done that way?).
</I>&gt;<i> Then people wanting to save bandwidth could just install using
</I>&gt;<i> &quot;--no-suggests&quot;.
</I>handbooks (when i initially created the split to fix mga #2101) where
only added as suggested.
How ever due to the use of bcd to create iso since mga2, suggests are
not available anymore on iso so in order to workaround it luc did add
a task handbooks which pulls thoses handbooks for dvd generation (&amp; so
they are now available on iso).
Maybe a bug should be created with the problematic packages so luc can
have a look on it.

I don't agree. You seem to first take for granted that a user of the
KDE desktop also uses all the applications and second you mistake
&quot;good to have&quot; for &quot;must have&quot;. I'm using KDE but only few KDE
applications - so why do I need a handbook for kppp or knode or kmail
when I don't even install these applications? I would happily
de-install such handbooks as I regularly unmark grub-doc and similar
packages from installation.

In your previous reply to Juergen you also showed that you
misunderstood his wish for Mageia documentation. It is good and
important that documentation is available if needed. But it must not
be forced on those who don't want/need it.

I may add that I have been involved in documentation writing and
translating for almost 7 years. But I never thought that users must
use it if they don't need it.

</I>
I agree, and that's why I said &quot;each component should requires its
handbook&quot;, meaning kdebase4-workspace requires
kdebase4-workspace-handbooks, kmail requires kmail-handbook, ...

Currently, each component suggests its handbook (needed for LiveCD).
If we use only suggests for handbooks, the handbooks are missing on DVD
iso (because DVD iso doesn't include suggests), so that handbooks are
never installed with a DVD install, and all the kde docs will be missing
by default.
For now, I don't have a perfect solution to this problem.
To workaround this, I added a task-kde4-handbooks that REQUIRES the
handbooks for kde's components that are installed by a default mageia
kde install. I know that it's not perfect.

I'm open to a better solution, but I really want to avoid that the
handbooks are not installed on most of mageia's install.

You are right with the criterium &quot;an application I use&quot;. But here we
are talking about handbooks of every single little KDE app being
forced upon the user, whether he wants/needs it or not.
Same as the examples grub-doc or qt-doc - an average user will never
need them and he can unmark them in package selection..

As for KDE I strongly suggest to have handbooks not required but all
KDE handbooks in one package, to be installed by default on a standard
KDE system but to be selectable in individual package selection - just
like with the other handbooks (Gimp, qt, etc.).

There is something nice about doing the full procedure, though: if a lot

Hi Jeff, it took a little more time than I thought but I have found
the cause and the cure for the problem with nfs-server function on
Mageia 1. In the process I learned how to use an rpm source package to
patch and rebuild the offending file for the nfs-utils package.
Tomorrow; the World!

First up, the problem is well known and of quite some vintage. It only
affected nfs-utils v1.2.3 so versions just prior and subsequent (as in
v1.2.5 in Mageia 2 Cauldron) are OK. Hence the Mandriva 2010.2 worked
as did my MGA2 Beta1 server.

This reference tells the whole story;

So the proposed fix was first seen in October 2010. I have used the
proposed patch to rebuild the nfs-utils-1.2.3-2.1.mga1 package and it
works perfectly well with the --ports option for rpc.mountd.

In the course of all this I can confirm your observation that in a
fresh MGA1 install of the nfs server the RPCMOUNTD_OPTIONS= entry is
blank in /etc/sysconfig/nfs-server. My guess is that it is only set to
a specific port number when you use the personal firewall with a hole
for NFS. I don't see how you could configure the firewall if the
listening port were to be some random value, so I reckon it's a good
guess.

I'll report this bug for the MGA1 package and we should have the fixed
version out quite soon.

<PRE>'Twas brillig, and Michael Scherer at 11/03/12 11:29 did gyre and gimble:
&gt;<i> Hi,
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> so there was exactly 2 candidates for the board :
</I>&gt;<i> Oliver Burger
</I>&gt;<i> Nicolas Vigier
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> We have 2 choice :
</I>&gt;<i> basically, iether say &quot;there is the people who volunteered so they are
</I>&gt;<i> in the board&quot;, or do the full procedure.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> While I would like to make sure that I am still able to use epoll, I am
</I>&gt;<i> not sure if that's really useful or a proper use of my time and of those
</I>&gt;<i> people in the association.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> What do people think ?
</I>
Assuming no more candidates present themselves, I would be more than
happy to have both Oliver and Nicolas on the board, and I think full
procedure can be skipped considering the deterministic nature of the
outcome.
