> Hi Marcello,
>
> Just before I respond to your points, you might like to take a look at the
> (updated yesterday) current to-do list on the marcomm wiki page - mainly
> because these tasks have been worked out by conferring with other council
> members, and they kind of fit into the general community-wide thrust.

i see it now, it's said that the main point is "Building a visual brand for
Mageia", that work is for artwork-team (maybe with our support), but CAN'T be
our work. i don't know which skills do the marketing team have, but i study
economics and i don't see any element that marketing should take in charge of.
>
> > 1) implementation (and improvement) of mageia ideas webiste or the use
> > http://ideascale.com/ (depending on manpower and features of the different
> > platform)
> >
> > 2) use of mediawiki as soon as possible
>
> These two (perhaps not exactly in the form you propose) is being discussed
> on the sysadmin and webteam lists already, I think. Do you sub to those
> lists?

i sub them quite often, but it's since a lot of time i hear about work on the
wiki but until now i don't see any concrete results (saying this i don't want
to give the fault to developers and systeam, i know they're overloaded). i
didn't manage to speak directly to them to have news, it's for this reason
that i ask to you on this list (also to avoid another loss of time for them)
>
> It's good to listen to what everyone in the community is saying about what
> might be done - that's kind of what council is partly about, to get the
> transverse communication going between teams.
>
> > 3) completation of http://www.mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=marketing-plan
> > by marketing team (this should contain only ideas and contributes from
> > marketing people)
>
> I *still* think this is too soon. We're really only now beginning to
> develop enough as a community to know how we want to present ourselves.

you're totally wrong. a business plan and a marketing plan are the first things
to be done in EVERY long-term project, we can't attract new users and
developers if it's not clear who we are and where we want to go, and how we
want to go.
>
> I also don't agree that *only* marketing should make contributions to the
> marketing plan - I'd like to see a variety of input, not least to help us
> identify our community's feelings about how we'd all like to be presented
> and marketed.

the general contributions should be inserted in the mageia-ideas webiste (?),
the contribution in the action plan is not a list of features, but a list of
key-features that are useful to reach the global goals the project gave to
itself. it must be a work of skilled people (as in the developers team work
skilled people and so on)
>
> > 4) add skype to the distro (italian users most wanted feaure)
> > https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154
>
> As Bradley says, this is probably not the right place to put this!

this is related to my above thought. this is not only a package request, this
is related to our promises to the users:
- We will strive for ease of use (Values)
- Have your fully-working system up and running really fast! (for you -
mageia1)
- We can make this better for developers and users. We can be a better place
to nurture open source technologies.
>
> > 5) rethinking of artwork (i don't like it at all, this should be also a
> > work of the marketing team) and the role of marketing team beside dev
> > team. (we can force dev team to implement new features? which role do we
> > have?)
>
> Hey, I don't think force has any place here... 8-)
>
> That said, check out the task list on the marcomm wiki page and the draft
> Mageia Style document in the Sandbox - I think that kind of covers this
> point. We'll be working closely with Artwork, and then with Webteam and
> the Discuss list (the whole community, in fact) to come to something that
> we're all as happy with as possible for our Visual Brand. As always, the
> Board will have the final say.
>
> And Marcello, it would be great to see you on IRC sometime - when on a
> Thursday can you make it?

as i said many times, i study outside my town, and there i have no connections
(and no time) available, because i must prepare my exams... the only time i
was available i got ill, anyway this is not so important because i'm working
on a long-term vision, that doesn't needs frequent meets.
>
> Cheers!
