I think it's been discussed to death really, but i can be wrong.

well maybe that's true, but is this something to be focussed on at this very 
moment? imho it can likely wait until after mga2 (unless pending security 
updates)

otoh: any packager can make a phpbb package (or other forum software) and it 
can even be pushed onto mga2 until release freeze.

is there even a request for it on bugzilla?

even if we take the second option, still, some packager will have to make a 
package for it.
