From Debian bug repport, reported and fixed upstream (Didn't see this untill now):

Apparently the maximum length of a device name for minicom is 80 chars.
This does not play well at all with the udev symlinks in /dev/serial/by-id,
which are very handy when you are working in an environment with multiple
(esp USB) serial ports.
