I tried that and now have a system with 3.8 that will either
(1) boot to the first blob above the cauldron :-) and then panics with
Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed
or
(2) with acpi=off boots to the login screen but the HP wireless USB
keyboard and mouse don't work.
By the way, the installer looked nicer, with images and slogans about
Mageia is for People in somewhat broken English :-) Maybe it's because I
used the network installer ISO instead of the full DVD.
