>>>> At first I though this was Firefox related (like flash
>>>> problem or something) because it was most noticeable when I
>>>> surfed - firefox freezes off and on and it is really
>>>> frustrating.
>>>
>>>
>>> Nope, but I got into same pb during a while, the freezing

>>> ended up also suspecting firefox and plugin stuff. It
>>> disappears in my case with recent updates though.
>>
>> I remember i used to have an old machine with nvnet nvidia

>> network traffic, the display seemed to hang for a bit...
>
> I have ruled out CPU and graphic over utilization - as well as
> heavy network traffic. I also just experienced this phenomenon on
> my newish Thinkpad X220 with an i7-2620 processor and Intel
> graphics card - 8Gig memory and 512 SSD - I had to reboot because
> the whole system was unresponsive.
>
> I have yet to find the cause, and the logs up to this point are not
> helping . . . maybe I should file a bug, but want to see if this
> is machine specific or something more serious with the latest
> kernels.
>
I had this problem recently- just on one day. Like you, I couldn't
pinpoint the problem and had to reboot. The only thing this (netbook)
system has in common with yours is Intel graphics.
