Well in the GDM case this could (and should) be solved more
intelligently. i.e. by properly noticing when the system hostname
changes with network events etc.
As for PS1 I see the issue, but I also think solving it by waiting is
fundamentally the wrong approach.
So the correct way to fix this is to ensure the DE environment itself
notices the changes and updates it's own environment, then whenever new
gnome-terminal etc. apps are launched, they inherit this updated
environment, not the one that was present when it was initialised.
So while delaying things might be a workaround, I think it's
fundamentally the wrong fix.
