for things that do not happen yearly, this is inside our genetics ;-)
Think olympic games, etc.
So either 6 or 12 or 24 months seems a good release time IMHO. Then
looking at other main distributions, 12 months means "loosing" users
(future contributors) every time we don't release near others release.
So 6 months ends up as the only way to keep the head out of water...
