<PRE>Thanks to everyone for the help. Solution on bottom.

Le 2012-06-05 17:08, Marc Par&#233; a &#233;crit :
&gt;<i> I was just printing some material in &quot;landscape&quot; mode on my Samsung
</I>&gt;<i> SCX-4200 printer and could not figure out why it would only print in
</I>&gt;<i> &quot;portrait&quot; mode. After fiddling around with settings, I found that when
</I>&gt;<i> at the printing stage, the print window will open and if I went to
</I>&gt;<i> &quot;Print-&gt;Properties-&gt;Device(tab)-&gt;Printer Language Type-&gt;&quot; it showed
</I>&gt;<i> &quot;pdf&quot;. If I changed it to &quot;&quot;PostScript (Level from driver)&quot; everything
</I>&gt;<i> worked fine.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Is there a way to make the &quot;PostScript&quot; drive the default driver? It
</I>&gt;<i> just seems that whenever I open/close a piece of editing/wordprocessing
</I>&gt;<i> software, the driver goes back to &quot;pdf&quot;.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Many thanks for any help.
</I>&gt;<i>

</I>&gt;<i> Marc
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Mageia2; Samsung SCX-4200
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>
The problem is the driver and dependencies that was supplied with the
Samsung SCX-4200; the driver is no longer supported by Samsung and this
is most likely the reason why &quot;landscape mode&quot; does not work due to
missing dependencies (the driver is expecting older dependencies to make
landscape mode work).

Please use the driver found on the &quot;OpenPrinting.org&quot; site that is
maintained by the Linux Foundation[1]. The driver is called the &quot;SpliX&quot;
driver and the acronym means: &quot;Samsung Printer Language -- for linux) --
SPL is a printing language that Samsung uses and that some other printer
makers license from Samsung.

Once downloaded (there are .deb and .rpm packages available -- Mageia
uses .rpm!), double-click on your downloaded file and it will install
all of the missing dependencies.

After installation, test-try your printer by opening a .odt file in
LibreOffice and ask for it to be printed in Landscape mode. It should
work properly.

If the file does not print properly, then you still have the older
driver install by defaut. To correct this:

* open MCC (Mageia Control Centre)
* left-hand panel -- click on Hardware
* right-hand panel -- click on &quot;Set-up the printers ...&quot;
* right-click on &quot;SamsunG-SCX-4200 ...&quot;
* choose &quot;Properties&quot;
* choose &quot;Maker and model&quot;-&gt;Modify
* wait till system finds all of the drivers
* choose &quot;Samsung&quot;
* choose &quot;Next&quot;
* choose &quot;Samsung SCX-4200 SpliX 2.0.0 (OpenPrinting LSB 3.2)&quot;
* choose &quot;Next&quot;
* CHOOSE &quot;Use this new PPD file (Postscript Printer Description) as is&quot;
* choose &quot;Apply&quot;
* print a &quot;test&quot; page from the MCC Printer Setup page
* the output should have a line that says &quot;Make and model: Samsung
SCX-4200, sPLIx 2.0.0 (oPENpRINTING lsb 3.2)&quot;
* Done!

Test the new driver

* close LibreOffice if open
* open LibreOffice
* create a new page in landscape mode (or open a file that is made for
landscape mode)
* print

Hope this helps anyone else with these problems.

Cheers,

Marc

<PRE>Hi TJ

Le 2012-06-09 12:01, TJ a &#233;crit :
&gt;<i> I ran into this problem back in February with LibreOffice Calc and my HP
</I>&gt;<i> printers. It was even more bothersome for me with Calc, as if you export
</I>&gt;<i> part of a spreadsheet to pdf, the resulting document won't print
</I>&gt;<i> correctly from any pdf reader where you can't tell it to auto-rotate the
</I>&gt;<i> page, no matter what you do.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Supposedly, if you go to /usr/lib/libreoffice/programs and run the
</I>&gt;<i> spadmin script, you can change this default setting (for the printer,
</I>&gt;<i> not the pdf export). That's the way LibreOffice set it up to work, as I
</I>&gt;<i> understand it. In practice, with Mageia anyway, if the &quot;Disable CUPS
</I>&gt;<i> support&quot; box isn't checked, the setting isn't permanent. But, if you
</I>&gt;<i> disable CUPS support, you'll need to provide your own printer command.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Interestingly enough, the problem didn't exist with the last Sun/Oracle
</I>&gt;<i> version of OpenOffice, so you could circumvent the problem by installing
</I>&gt;<i> and using that instead of LibreOffice. I haven't tried the new Apache
</I>&gt;<i> version of OpenOffice yet, so I don't know if that still holds true.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> A workaround for individual files was to change the printer language
</I>&gt;<i> setting for each document, then save the document to make it permanent
</I>&gt;<i> for that document. You might have to make a small, invisible change in
</I>&gt;<i> the document itself, like adding a character and then removing it, to
</I>&gt;<i> trigger a proper save. I know it's a bother if you need to do it for a
</I>&gt;<i> lot of files, but it's all I know to do.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> TJ
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>
I have just posted the fix on the list. The problem is with the driver
that Samsung supplied with the printer. Samsung no longer supports the
driver and it looks like some of the dependencies that supported
landscape mode are no longer supplied with the newer Linux distributions.

Maybe your HP driver is also no longer properly supported? You may want
to visit the <A HREF="http://www.OpenPrinting.org">http://www.OpenPrinting.org</A> (run by the Linux Foundation)
and see if someone has reported the same problem with your HP model's
driver.

Cheers,

welcome to mageia appeared and install started. It went to 10 sec and
stopped. Tried a reboot. Didn't work. I tried to do the upgrade again.
Didn't work. Finally had to do an install. First problem was the
thunderbird icon. After installing the program I copied the icon from
the list of programs to the desktop. The icon is now hidden behind the
trash icon and I can not move or delete the trash icon to get to the
thunderbird icon. I just rt clicked on the desktop and did an icon sort
and managed to get thunderbird out. There is now an icon behind trash
that I don't use very much. I will now have to reinstall some programs
that I used in mageia 1.

<PRE>Mageia 2 fully updated

This is probably a newbie question.... I am not sure when this started
to happen but when, as a user, I try to unmount a USB drive via the
desktop icon I am told that I am not authorized to perform that
operation. After browsing bugzilla and the forums it looked like the
best way to get past this would be to use sudo. However, editing the
sudoers file always throws up a syntax error. I have tried various
commands based on examples but cannot get any to work.

e.g.

ALL /bin/umount NOPASSWD
%users /bin/umount NOPASSWD
%users localhost=/bin/umount NOPASSWD

What is the correct recipe? RTFM only makes my old brain spin.

or maybe :

%users ALL=/bin/umount device NOPASSWD: ALL

where &quot;device&quot; is whatever the usb drive is mounted as.
Not workable if &quot;device&quot; is variable.

Alternately, you could do :
su
(enter password)
umount ...

As to why you are having the problem :
It means that the drive was mounted with root privileges, or the
privileges of another user.
Thus it is requiring root privileges (or that of the other user) to unmount.

Was it plugged it when the system was booted ? That could cause it to
have root privileges.
Is it in a line the /etc/fstab file ?
(if so, you just have to add the option &quot;users&quot; in the comma-separated
list in the third position in the line.)

Or it could be a bug.

<PRE>I can see from your ck-list-sessions output that you are correctly
identified as both &quot;local&quot; and &quot;active&quot;. That rules out any problems
with the consolekit authentication mechanism I think.

The most likely cause now, in my experience with this problem, is you
have competing sub-systems fighting over who gets to mount and unmount
USB drives. The likely culprits are HAL and udisks2. udisks2 _should_
win, but having HAL on your system is complicating things.

Try watching your system log while plugging and unplugging your drive.
You should see something like this when you plug in, mount (using your
file manager) and then unmount:

problem as you report unless I work around it by doing the following:

If it is installed then remove udisks
If it is installed then remove hal; that will take away
perl-Hal-Cdroms too, which is ok
make sure you DO NOT have an entry in /etc/fstab for your CDROM

</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i>

</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> Was it plugged it when the system was booted ? That could cause it to

</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> Or it could be a bug.
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> A bug seems doubtful because there do not seem to be any other reports
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> of this behaviour. I have been forced to take the direct su/password
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> route.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> The medium was plugged in at boot time but has been removed and
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> replugged a few times. I had not considered that point. What you are
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> saying is that removable media are treated as fixed if already plugged

</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> It has happened to me in the past, although currently I have no problem
</I>&gt;<i> with a dvd that I sometimes have inserted on boot. (I use Gnome as
</I>&gt;<i> well, but haven't yet updated to mga2.)
</I>&gt;<i> If that is the cause, either something is not configured right or not

</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> Will investigate fstab, edit if necessary and reboot without the
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> drive . And if that works, mend sudoers.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> For fstab, the &quot;users&quot; option lets any user unmount the drive, even if

Probably would have worked, if you waited longer. It's processing all of the
rpm triggers from the updated files, and removing the old versions of the
packages from the system.

On an upgrade of around 2200 packages, on my old i586 system, that delay

I've encountered similar problems in the past. It seems to be caused by
mixing regular desktop icons and widgets in kde4. I move things like the

</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> I've encountered similar problems in the past. It seems to be caused by

</I>&gt;<i> trash widget to the lower right, and then lock the widgets.
</I>
The trash can will not move no matter what I try.
