>> he shouldn't have, and submitting this to us in the background
>> contest, claiming he was the author.
>>
>> We (Mageia) did not double check the submission adequacy (too much
>> trust into submitters, call it naive) and we get the consequences of
>> it. It's not like we actively did that mistake.
>>
>> As Anne says, we may need to only accept original works from peers
>> _within_ the artwork team (and not anymore from outside contributors
>> as in such a contest - that will be valid for screensavers too).
>
> Well, refraining totally from contests is a bit too extreme IMHO. Even
> if you limit them to works by members of the artwort team or any other
> team you are not protected agains such things. Somebody may join the
> artwork team and then do something wrong in this area.
>
> What we can do (and have to do): In case a piece of art is the winner
> of a contest the submitter has to write a public statement including
> his full name about the piece of art and we should do checks (google
> or other means) a bit more thoroughly than last time. This would be
> sufficient. If then such a case would happen again we can easily point
> to the public statement and the person in question.
>
> Closing art contests would be too much of a loss of possibilities, /me thinks.
>

I also agree. The contests are really good for marketing and creates
buzz around the brand. Not only that, it is nice to see the membership
show off its talents. It would be a shame to stop any contests of this sort.

We can all help out checking the submissions.

Cheers,

Marc
