<PRE>Tony Blackwell a &#233;crit :
&gt;<i> Where do Mageia 1 and Mageia 2 stand regarding UEFI boot, disk sizes etc?
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> I saw a lot of fearful discussion 3-4 months ago about hardware
</I>&gt;<i> becoming dedicated to MS and unchangeable to linux. Went shopping for
</I>&gt;<i> new motherboards today and couldn't get relevant info; seems with ASUS
</I>&gt;<i> and Gigabyte all the new Intel 2011 boards are UEFI. Think I've seen
</I>&gt;<i> that grub supports UEFI? (Is my favorite lilo out the window now?)
</I>&gt;<i> Will M2 (and will M1) install and boot on disks above 2.2TB? What
</I>&gt;<i> came of concerns re MS and cryptographic keys?
</I>&gt;<i> tonyb
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>According to wikipedia, linux has been able to boot EFI since the year 2000.
Mageia (and Mandriva before) supports GPT (the partition tables used on
UEFI disks) on MBR disks, since I've been using that for well over a year.
More info at <A HREF="http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFI">http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFI</A>

Grub supports GPT since version 1.97 patched for GPT (which
Mageia/Mandriva used), and on versions 2.x and up.
Lilo may not work with EFI, but there is Elilo.
<A HREF="http://elilo.sourceforge.net/">http://elilo.sourceforge.net/</A>
(The last release in 2007)
The 2,2TB limit is for MBR disks. EFI and Linux support much higher limits.

Initially there were some problems with diskdrake, but I think that they
have been solved. (The workaround for formatting partitions on disks
with GPT partition tables was using gparted.)

<PRE>Being away from base for a while, I'm trying the Mageia-2 Beta3 on the
laptop.

The install went well (apart from the difficulty persuading it to use
LABEL instead of UUID in /etc/fstab!).

I then struck a problem in KMail, though, when trying to Import
'maildir' email from Mandriva 2010.2.

No problem with Inbox (6,019 emails), but a bizarre result with
Sent-Mail:

There were 4,859 emails to import from Sent-Mail, but only 1,027 made
it!
During the import the number of emails done started to fluctuate
around 1006 - backwards and forwards, before finishing at 1027 (i.e.
over 3,000 emails missing (also 55 duplicates found).

Tried it twice. Same result.
So deleted the Sent-mail KMail-Import folder, and tried:

rsync -avx
/mdv2010.2-home/user/.kde4/share/apps/kmail/mail/sent-mail/cur/
/home/user/.local/share/local-mail/sent-mail/cur

That worked quickly and perfectly - no emails missing - and KMail
handles the folder as normal.

Has anyone else come across anything like that?

</I>Well, I write a lot of scripts to help me run household accounts, print
labels, calendar, diary, journal, etc, etc. I would feel lost without
them. They all have guis and many use stock images in menubars and the
like so there would be a lot of editing and testing needed to make them
work. On the other hand I am testing mga2b3 on a new X51, intending to
keep Mageia 1 on my production machine until the dust settles, so
realistically the importance is low, say 1 just now. I don't intend to
edit these scripts for the X51 but I would like to think it could simply
replace the workstation at some point without bother.

The latest version I could find on SourceForge was 1.4, which fell over
because for some reason ruby was looking for 1.3. Thanks for your interest.

One more point. AFAIK the image stuff is bundled with ruby 1.9 so if we
move to that sometime the ball will be in somebody else's court.
