<PRE>I know you are all very busy assembling and beta-testing Mageia 2, and
many thanks to you all...

Mageia 1 is now running on my shiny new Alienware X51 using the VESA
driver, not ideal for such a powerful beast and the 295.33 driver is
recommended for the GTX 555 so I tried using the old Mandriva script to
build the RPMs only to see it fall over:

[<A HREF="https://www.mageia.org/mailman/listinfo/mageia-discuss">lcl at altair</A> 295]$ sh nvidia-mdvbuild.sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-295.33.run

Building a package of NVIDIA driver 295.33 for x86_64, this will take a
few minutes... rpmbuild output follows:
error: parse error in expression
error: /tmp/nvidia-mdvbuild.V8lHwp/nvidia-current.spec:52:
parseExpressionBoolean returns -1

Building package failed!

In the past, sudden failures of the script have been caused by changes
in the format of the run file. Does that look likely here?
nvidia-current.spec?

I went to download the Mageia 2 Beta 3 ISO's via torrent and I was
surprised when Firefox suggested opening them in kget. I looked for
ktorrent but the option wasn't available and the executable was
missing. I haven't had a single reason to remove it. The only
torrents I download are Mageia releases and it was here for the Beta 2
release.

All I can think of is that at some point one of the updates removed
the ktorrent executable from my Mageia 1 system. I ran &quot;urpmi
ktorrent&quot; and it installed without any errors or warnings, so the RPM
database didn't think it was currently installed either.

Is anyone else missing ktorrent? My wife's Mageia 1 system still had
the executable, so I'm not filing a bug report yet. Both systems are
running the 64-bit version and are up to date.

BTW, kget doesn't know how to download torrents.

Thank you,

Jeff

<PRE>I just installed Beta 3 - very smooth install, boot time has
substantially shortened, great.

But, after the install I do urpmi &lt;list of additional packages&gt;, and
there is a big snare: all packages are fetched from the remote mirror,
even if they exist on the install DVD. As a consequence, loading
packages after install becomes very tedious and long (for instance if I
post-load packages like texlive-texmf of libreoffice).

I verifified in /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg: the &quot;cdrom:..&quot; medium is well
defined (and does not have an &quot;ignore&quot; statement).

To create a demo that can be easily reproduced, I did urpme xmag : the
package is fetched from the mirror, although a package with the same
version exists on the install DVD.

Did I commit some stupid error? - does this problem arrive elsewhere?

I like to use an external monitor when doing more serious work on my
netbook. As far as I can see there is nothing in MCC for setting that
up, so I assume I have to use System Settings. However, that too only
offers me the settings for the netbook's display.

I've looked at xorg.conf which also only has the settings for the
netbook screen. Am I right in thinking that I have to get xrandr to
get this working correctly? At the moment I can clone the screen, but
that means that only 80% of the screen is visible, a real pain.

I'm using beta 3, and package management seems to be problematic at
the moment.

It seems that xrandr is already installed, so that isn't the problem.

The netbook screen is correctly set to
1280x720, refresh 60.4 Hz

The external monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster 193v is set to
1024x768, refresh 60 Hz.

That should be 1280x1024, refresh 75Hz.

Does anyone know how I can set this up?

I have used that to set up a separate monitor on my laptop.

<PRE> &gt; Definitely sounds weird, normally urpmi always preferred
&gt; local repositories. So best file a bug report about that.

I found the reason: I always keep (kept) the cdrom medium last in my
list of media (i.e. sequence in /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg, as determined by
the sequence observed when media are created).

In the past, urpmi nevertheless preferred the cdrom medium, but that has
apparently changed quite recently. I have now moved the cdrom medium to
be the first my in urpmi.cfg, and everything is fine again.

Is this a bug? probably not - I dont think that the way urpmi determines
media priority is specified. But I think it is good to be aware of this
fact, in case somebody else hits this kind of problem.
