Don't know how exactly to report this as a bug or if it has been.

I run dual monitors with separate x-sessions.

I've kept my 'cauldron' partition fully updated and until todays updates
gnome has always given me a totally solid blue screen on both monitors, and
the .gnome2 folder had no entries.

Following todays updates my main monitor appears as seen at
pwx.gen.nz/snapshot1.png (this shot is of gnome login). (Gnome classic is
the same). The second monitor has the blue stripes filling the whole screen
with the panels at top and bottom empty. The panels could not be configured.

Unable to get a screenshot of monitor 2.

Can someone give me a clue as to how to report this as a bug, ie against
what part on gnome, or if there is a bug on this already what's the bug
report number.

TIA

I use LuckyBackup which is found on the Mageia repositories. The version
in MCC is 0.4.6 but it was recently updated to v.0.4.7 on the
LuckyBackup website.[1] I installed this latest version by downloading
the Mandriva 10.1 64bit version and it seems to be working fine so far.

It uses the standard rsync for backing up but has a nice GUI and it does
pretty well all types of backups that you would want to do. You just
have to play around with it a bit to appreciate all of its settings.

You may perhaps try an other way :
It works with mandriva 2010.2 It may work with Mageia
I can't verify it for now ... my computer for production use is still
working with mandriva because of missing rpms in Mageia (aac encoding
stuff)...
and my experimental computer doesn't have a soundblaster card !

I didn't use the file /etc/modprobe.d/sound

but two files :
/etc/modprobe.preload
/etc/modprobe.conf

I adapted them for you :

/etc/modprobe.preload file (with something for realtime kernel that you
can comment with a # if you don't use a real time kernel)
-----------------------------------------------
# /etc/modprobe.preload: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line. Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.
# this file is for module-init-tools (kernel 2.5 and above) ONLY
# for old kernel use /etc/modules

realtime mlock=1 gid=81

snd-seq-midi-emul
snd-seq-virmidi
snd-emux-synth
snd-emu10k1-synth
---------------------------------------------------------

/etc/modprobe.conf file : (add these lines if they don't exist, and just
modify the path to your soundfont file)
------------------------------------------------------------
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
alias sound-slot-0 snd_emu10k1

I just discovered that when a new kernel package is installed the grub

I would think that if you install an update the expectation is that it

>
> Ron.

Version 3.5.2 was just released a couple of days ago. You may want to
upgrade to this version. Hopefully the problems associated with 3.5.1
have been ironed out. You can find the change logs here:

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/3.5.2/RC1 and
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/3.5.2/RC2.

The 3.5.2 line is recommended for private users and small enterprises
and should be a lot more stable than the previous version. The 3.4.6
version is in its final version and will not see anymore updates as the
devs are already working/planning out the 3.6.x version. And, as you
mention, the 3.4.6 "is safe to be deployed for production use".

You can find the "degree of reliability" on the "Release Notes" page:

http://www.libreoffice.org/download/release-notes/

IMO, I would suggest going with the 3.5.2 version as I think there were
more fixes and additions to the code than the previous version. With the
rapid release cycle, version 3.5.3 will appear soon enough with more
fixes and updates.

Cheers

Marc

On Saturday 07 Apr 2012 11:08 my mailbox was graced by a message from Marc

> The 3.5.2 line is recommended for private users and small enterprises

What prompted my posting is recent (as "in the last few days") discussions on
the LO-Users list about some bad problems with 3.5.2.

> IMO, I would suggest going with the 3.5.2 version as I think there were

>>>>>>
>>>>> Not so. The default uses the symlinks for vmlinuz and initrd which are

Sure. All I did was select a group of cells with the mouse. Then,
left-click on the group and hold while moving the mouse to shift the
selected cells to another location. In 3.4.4, Calc crashed as soon as I
attempted the last step. Every time. After libreoffice-kde was removed,
it didn't crash anymore.

I read online where other crashes occurred with 3.4.4, and maybe 3.4.5,
under different circumstances in other distros, and removing
libreoffice-kde eliminated them, but I don't remember specifics now.

Not getting very far at all with M2beta2 x86_64. Similar problems on 2
machines, one laptop one desktop, both of them 4 yrs old or so. md5 of
the install disk is OK.

1. Choosing lilo at install always results in failure to boot. The
system sits frozen showing boot linux message. Looking at the system
via M1 from another partition showed syslog had not been created yet (at
least on the laptop after 1st failed lilo boot - its there on desktop
after several reboots)

2. re-running the whole install as new install, keeping everything the
same, but choosing grub results in a bootable beta2. I then select
update all sources and allow this to complete. Then select update your
system, it updates glibc and a short list of other things, then
terminates silently; I'd expected it would come back with an extended
list of packages to update. Re-running update manually, MCC brings up
the 'Please wait' sliding progress bar, then immediately above it "A
fatal error occurred: Couldn't open RPM DB () at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.14.2/Rpmdrake/open_db.pm line 74.."

i.e. I either can't boot it with lilo or can't update it if I got it up
via grub.

3. Related prblem I guess. Going in via MCC, vi hardware, to set
screen stuff has been very flakey. It now tells me needs to install
task-x11. OK-ing this gives a brief note about preparing packages
installation, results in failure "unable to open rpmdb"

I'm chasing around in circles with this. Do I need to put these in
separate critical bug reports?
