Exactly. Well-designed context-oriented help. That is one of the
bigger weaknesses of Mageia (and Mandriva), compared to at least one
other distro.
(But the drak* tools are one of our strengths.)
Note that context-oriented help is not intrusive -- it is available if
needed, but almost invisible otherwise.

One point is that help is not only useful if the user has a problem. It
can be a useful confidence-building confirmation for a new user, no
matter how experienced.
I've seen a lot of new users -- in all sorts of environments -- who
needed little more than confirmation to proceed confidently with a computer.

Just to receive messages, like most mailing lists.
I would be difficult to filter by list membership, as members often post
from more than one adresse.

After being on these lists, with the huge volume (more than 50/day)
since the beginning, and getting very little spam compared with my other

of one's correspondants (and correspondants of correspondants) that is

Since Mageia contributors would be expected to have wiser email

Once again I am having this bug that can occur on any WPA hotspot my laptops

more than one day because he refuses connect me to the hotspot I need to
connect to.

Since I got no answer since I opened the bug, as asked previously in this

complete everyday (I know I have the printer thing as well to answer and
solve) and I just cannot do anything about this except really endangering my

Tell me what I should do, I shall answer you very quickly and give the
answers I am able to fetch if you tell me what is precisely needed.

Thank you very much by advance.

No. That's where you're wrong.
Most mailings lists software, including mailman, require you to actually be a member of the list in order to send messages to it. If you are not a member, the adress you are using to send messages but be on a predefined list of aproved senders.
If none of these two items is not in place, and anyone external party can send messages, then the list admins have manually DISABLED Mailmans security features.

As one who have been running a mailman mailinglist, and a mailman server, for close to 10 years, I know what I'm talking about. :-)=

>>>> In short, you need to be able to update from the Core Updates Testing

>>>> Updates Testing.

>>>> You might get an error to do with a new msec/sectool at the moment when
>>>> you go to update, you can safely ignore it. Don't update with everything
>>>> from testing, just update the relevant hplip packages it offers.
>>>>
>>>> When you have updated them, remember to disable the Core Updates Testing
>>>> media.

>>>
>>> When I click on 'Cancel' to cancel the printing in the

What hardware are you using?
It sounds like the firmware is buggy.
As an example, I have an Eeepc with RA3090 hardware. It did pretty-much
what you were describing with both Ubuntu and Mageia (the 64bit drivers
and firmware were worse in both cases). I cured it (if you can call it
that!) by using Fuduntu instead. The Fedora 32bit firmware in Fuduntu
seems to be OK. I have not tried the 64bit version - I had got it
working and that was good enough for me at that point!

Nope, still would not work. And still, it has been working fine for one week
before he did me this again without needing a fixed IP.

Note that I can connect to other wireless hotspots, opened or close, but not
the only one I need to. And my ids are supposed to be all good. And it is
the only hotspot where he mixes up config files, sometimes telling me it is
open while there is an Enteprise WPA2 key.

He also keeps my ids instead of deleting them even if I delete the wireless
connection to create it again.

I have tested with another installation of up-to-date Mageia done on an

may possibly not come from the Mageia packages, but would rather come from a
quirk somewhere is the system, as another disk with Mageia does install the

And it looks like that's what happened here, from what I can determine.

The two posts from Duane, that I found, was sendt from "***.dsl.mindspring.com"
while the spam was sendt from "88.253.250.161" (.ttnet.net.tr - Turkey) via the same SMTP server, using Earthlinks webmail. (According to headers.)
So it appears that Duane doesn't have a compromised system after all, as Florian suggested.

> Is it a DCHP issue? If you use a fixed IP address does the problem
> go away? I used to have real issues with Mandriva a few years ago
> until I changed the DHCP client in the network setup. Might be
> worth a try - might be talking ********!
>
>
> Nope, still would not work. And still, it has been working fine for
> one week before he did me this again without needing a fixed IP.
>
> Note that I can connect to other wireless hotspots, opened or close,
> but not the only one I need to. And my ids are supposed to be all
> good. And it is the only hotspot where he mixes up config files,
> sometimes telling me it is open while there is an Enteprise WPA2 key.
>
> He also keeps my ids instead of deleting them even if I delete the
> wireless connection to create it again.

I use drakx-net as well, but it seems different hardware.
I don't know if this will help any, but when I download DVDs using a
wireless hotspot, moving my portable only 20 cm can make a big
difference in whether I get a reliable connexion, and even 10 cm can
make a big difference in download speed. The orientaion of my portable
makes a difference as well.
(I use aria2 which gives me feedback once a minute.)
The strength of the signals vary on different days as well.

In the past (under mdv) I've noticed that in the presence of several
signals, with an unwanted stronger than a wanted signal, it can
sometimes be difficult to make the wanted connexion.

So maybe you can try moving/ re-orienting your computer to get a better
signal.
BTW, are you monitoring the signals when you connect ? That could help
orient the computer.

Click the network icon (by the clock), and the network centre window
opens (after a few seconds).
Then click the arrow at the left to expand the wi-fi section, and you
will see all the detected wi-fi signals. If they don't show up right
away, click the refresh button at the bottom of the wi-fi section.
There is a signal force column. The size or colour of the icons
indicates the force of each signal detected. If you put the mouse
pointer over the icon, it gives a % value.
100% indicates an optimal signal strength, which I often attain. A
lower value generally results in a slower transfer rate.

I use aria2 for large downloads (such as ISOs). Aria2 will
automatically reconnect if the connexion is lost, and prints a progress
line every 60 seconds, showing transfer rate, % completed, and estimated
finish time.

>while the spam was sendt from "88.253.250.161" (.ttnet.net.tr - Turkey) via the same SMTP server, using Earthlinks webmail. (According to headers.)
>So it appears that Duane doesn't have a compromised system after all, as Florian suggested.
>
>Oh well.
>Like they say, shit happens to good people too. :-)=

And perhaps more incentive to GPG-sign mails by default... you're less
likely to get labelled a spammer when suddenly someone decides to start
sending mails in your name :-)
