Hi Thomas,

> >> I am experiencing since a lot of time big printing issues with an
> >> HP Photosmart 7150 and Mageia.
> >
> > I'm using an HP Photosmart C6180 under Mageia 1, using both CUPS
> > and HPLip. No problems at all.
> >
> > On my system HPLip is 3.11.3a, HP Device Manager is 15.0(Qt4),
> > and the only problem I have with that is that the systray app
> > uses 100% CPU.
> >
> > CUPS is 1.4.6, and the driver is "hpcups 3.10.2rc1.9 (color,
> > 2-sided printing)"; it's network-connected using the socket://
> > connection type. Things like Claws, Firefox, LibreOffice etc use
> > the CUPS connection.
> >
> > What do you have installed? Are you printing through CUPS or the
> > HP Device manager or just what? What versions do you have
> > installed, and is it a 64-bit or a 32-bit system?
> >
> > Let us know what you can of the answers, and we'll do our best to
> > help.
>
> Thank you very much for your help. This is very kind, I would
> almost go crazy when attempting to understand.
>
> The printer did... somewhat worked and somepoint before. It would
> print one page, then stop. It was impossible to cancel completely a
> task in the printer list, and if I'm not wrong, it seemed
> impossible to empty the printer spooler.
>
> Usually we print using the usual tools offered by KDE or standard
> GTK software. I mea, we used to print using Firefox, Adobe Reader,
> Okular,
>
> System-config-printer is the one with who I interacted most of the
> time, but using HPLIP did not make any difference. Printing a test
> page using HPLIP would eventually make literally crash/panic my
> printer.

Okay, I have that too - it's just another front-end to CUPS, so it
shouldn't make any difference.

> > If you run CUPS (go to http://localhost:631/ in your browser) and
> > add a printer, what steps are you taking and what errors are you
> > getting? Can you print a test page?
>
> I had to enter the user root and it's password to add a new
> printer. Selecting "Find a printer" did not make him find one, but
> using "Add a printer" made him detect twice (?) the HP Photosmart
> printer. Two different names have been found, I selected the one
> that was not already added. I then selected the CUPS+Gutenprint
> model. The other one that was already installed uses the hpcups
> model.

The CUPS+Gutenprint model - is it the Photosmart 7150 driver? There's
some info here that suggests using a different driver might work, but
it could be out of date:

http://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-PhotoSmart_7150

Otherwise it's mostly as I expected (CUPS doesn't find my network
printer either, I have to add it and then add the IP address).

What connection method are you using? I have two iterations of my
Photosmart C6180 set up; one using the socket:// connection and one
using hp:/net/Photosmart_C6100_series?ip=192.168.1.4. Both appear to
work fine.

> But when running a test page printing on those two, both of them
> print a big black square on the page (emptying at the same time the
> black ink cartridge).
>
> Deleting and readding the printer does not solve the issue.
>
> No errors have been encountered while performing these steps.

It's a mystery still! Let's keep it out here in case anyone else has
a suggestion...

Cheers,
