Eugeni,

I was using drakbackup in Mandriva for the backups to the server, but it
isn't available on Mageia. I was saving the files to a mounted nfs
share. Each computer has it's own directory on the share. I was using
DAR to archive the backup directories on the server and save them on a
removable hard-drive, which was kept at a separate location. This is
only for our computers at home, 3, and not a business.

I am going to take a closer look at draksnapshot later on. I guess I
just looked at the name '*snapshot' and figured it was basically an
image of the entire system and not just specific folders and files.

I added the requirements below for completeness.

My current requirements/preferences for the desktops are as follows:
1) Ability to include only specific directories and subdirectories.
2) Ability to easily exclude specific directories.
3) Saves compressed copies in easy to use archive formats (tar, dar,
zip, etc)
4) Ability to do incremental backups
5) Ability to schedule backups
6) Ability to easily get files out of a backup using a livecd and any
computer
 - I should not need a database running to get files
 - I should not need a full Linux install

My current requirements/preferences for the server's backup folders are
as follows:
1) Saves compressed copies in easy to use archive formats (tar, dar,
zip, etc)
2) Ability to do incremental backups

I will probably just continue to use DAR to do the backups from the
server to the removable hard-drive. I created a statically linked
version of DAR and text-mode only Truecrypt. The external drive is
encrypted because it lives off-site.

Thank you,

Jeff
