<PRE>Hi,

</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> Well, Mga2 will get upgraded to 3.4 longterm kernel soon, so maybe
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> we should look into backporting the Intuos 5 tablet support to
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> 3.4 series... then I could add it to the -rt kernel too.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> That would be awesome. I checked the diff of the 3.5 kernel, and
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> grep-ed for intuos 5 code, there does not seem to be *that* much.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> If ever you do it, a big big thank you!
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Hm, I just checked...
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Intuos 5 tablet support went in just after 3.3-rc6, so
</I>&gt;<i> the release kernel 3.3.6 and the update 3.3.8 should work.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> So I need more info... have you tested with that kernel ?
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> (not the -rt as that is at 3.2*)
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>
&gt;<i>From what I see from the commits, they happened 2012-04-04 indeed, but
</I>the merge commit by Linus which says that Intuos 5 is supported is the
05/24, which is *after* 3.4 release (05/20):
<A HREF="http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux%2Fkernel%2Fgit%2Fstable%2Flinux-stable.git&amp;a=search&amp;h=HEAD&amp;st=commit&amp;s=intuos5&amp;sr=1">http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux%2Fkernel%2Fgit%2Fstable%2Flinux-stable.git&amp;a=search&amp;h=HEAD&amp;st=commit&amp;s=intuos5&amp;sr=1</A>

Also if you check the patch of 3.5, it contains all the new code for
Intuos 5 (could not find any Intuos related code in other 3.3.6/8 or
3.4 patches): <A HREF="http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/patch-3.5.bz2">http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/patch-3.5.bz2</A>

Finally for the record, I did test with the
kernel-desktop-3.3.8-2.mga2 (the current last kernel for Mageia 2
stable). Absolutely no support (I plug, and I can move whatever I want
with my stylus, nothing happens). This is why I started searching for
the support of intuos 5 on the web.
I also tested with the kernel-rt-3.4.9-rt17.1.mga3 from Cauldron.
Definitely no support either.

Finally I tested with the kernel-desktop-3.5.3-3.mga3 from Cauldron.
Works immediately. I plug, I move the stylus and it makes the mouse
pointer move. Pression works fine in Gimp, buttons as well, etc.

I guess that even though the commits were there before 3.4 release
(when you search the web, some people thought it would be integrated
in 3.4 indeed), they did not actually get integrated into a release
before 3.5. Maybe? I don't really know how the kernel development is
organized exactly, but I guess some commits may be retained a little
longer out of releases?

&gt;<i> If it does not work, I need more info such as exact model and id of the
</I>&gt;<i> tablet, lspcidrake -v output and so on...
</I>&gt;<i> Anything in the logs or dmesg ?
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>
Do you still need these info?
Anyway, I can give them (that's an Intuos 5 M).

dmesg returns:

lsusb:
-----------------------------
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 056a:0027 Wacom Co., Ltd

lspcidrake -v does not return anything related to the wacom tablet,
nor any usb device for that matter. The --help says the USB devices
source is /proc/bus/usb/devices but there is nothing at this path. I
guess that explains this, though I did not investigate more as I never
used this command anyway.

Note that these outputs have been done from my working 3.5.3 kernel.
Maybe you wanted to get them run from the 3.4 or the 3.3.8?

Anyway as I said above, it really looks like the support is only from
3.5, so that's normal that it does not work with earlier kernels.
Thanks for looking into this!
