> >> >> Yes. Why not use the unified grid-like background image
> >> >> (Wall*-04.jpg)? (with or without the Mageia name on it) - there it
> >> >> would be unified with the boot sequence.
> >> >
> >> > Romain, which grid image are you meaning? The current background or
> >> > plymouth theme?
> >>
> >> This. http://www.flickr.com/photos/54316230@N06/5425490722/in/photostream/
> >
> > I like this image very much also...
> > Some points:
> >
> > - I understand that having some corporate image in the login (kdm, gdm)
> > window is desired, but don't forget that gdm or kdm hide the center of
> > the screen.
> > - Continuity between boot steps is a pretty nice feature...
> > - I don't know if it happens to more people, but I find complex backgrounds
> > very distracting and hurt my eyes. If there are big letters or extreme
> > color changes in the background it annoys me. I could never put a portrait
> > of my children as background as many people do ;).
> >
> > This is just a quick'n'dirty mockup:
> > - plymouth: http://webdiis.unizar.es/~magallon/mga/mga1.jp
>
> Why do you want to change current one ? it's rather nice and just need
> to remove beta mention
>

I also think it is the best of what was proposed. My ideas were (where I
write 'should' or 'must', please read 'from my point of view' ;) ):

- The name and logo must be present in the background.
- The transition from plymouth to dm must be smooth (even, if it is
possible, from grub to plymouth, but I think there is a short period
where kernel boot messages are on screen...).
- The center of the screen is the worst place to place the logo, as
dm's put their login/userlist dialog there, over the logo.

So... change everything in this way:
- use the same image (blue grid)
- put the logo at the bottom of the screen (upper 2/3, filled with
grid, lower 1/3, half grid/half silver with the cauldron and name).
- put the dots (or any progress graphics) in the central third
- on boot, the dots just fade into the gdm/kdm login dialog.
- for (if) smooth change is also possible from grub to plumouth, use
the same bg and put the grub os list at the top.
- if the grid is also the default desktop bg, you also get a smooth
transition from dm to user desktop.

> > - gdm: http://webdiis.unizar.es/~magallon/mga/mga2.jpg
> > - desktop background: http://webdiis.unizar.es/~magallon/mga/mga3.jpg
> >
> > So you fade smoothly from plymouth to gdm to default BG on login.
> >
