<PRE>
&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> I followed the discussion on the marketing ML but there is still a
</I>&gt;<i> point that I miss: Where is it stated that the official planet[1] is
</I>&gt;<i> designed for official team members and developers of Mageia? They are
</I>&gt;<i> indeed among the few blogs on this planet, but is it a
</I>&gt;<i> political/marketing decision or is it just a matter of fact because
</I>&gt;<i> this planet was not enough promoted and users didn't bother to
</I>&gt;<i> register their blogs on it?
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>
Especially since there's no link to add your blog. If the council
members decide to open it up to all users, that sounds great to me.

&gt;<i> For the record, the official planet was created in February 2011[2]
</I>&gt;<i> and was expected to be run by the marketing team. According to the
</I>&gt;<i> blog post for its launch, it is open to everyone from the Mageia
</I>&gt;<i> community, since we could apply with a simple comment on the blog
</I>&gt;<i> post.
</I>
marcom seems a little vague on this, we're working on it to regain
access to it.

&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> So, the real question is: Should we develop an end-user only planet
</I>&gt;<i> alongside the official planet, the latter being left unpopulated and
</I>&gt;<i> unnoticed, or should we think about redesigning the official planet,
</I>&gt;<i> promoting it and having new users registered to it?
</I>
I agree one is preferable, but I also think it should include all
community members. If our selling point is we're all Mageia, then anyone
who agrees to the code of conduct should be welcome. But that&#8217;s just my
humble opinion.

<PRE>According to the article &quot;Critical Java hole being exploited on a
large scale&quot; there is a hole which is heavily exploited.

The hole that was patched by Oracle in mid-February allows malicious
code to breach the Java sandbox and permanently anchor itself in a
system. Varying types of malware have been injected; for example, it
is believed that the hole has been exploited to deploy the ZeuS
trojan.
(unquote)

The page gives a link to a test routine at java.com where you can test
which version is installed on your machine. For my Mageia 1
installation with firefox the test shows &quot;Your Java version: Version
6 Update 26&quot; - which matches the installed package
(java-1.6.0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.26-0.2.mga1.nonfree).

Recommended is &quot;version 6 update 31&quot;. But this is not available yet at Mageia.

 - will there be a security related update for Mageia 1?
 - if not, should we use the recommended newer version from java.com
(rpm packages available for 32 and 64 bit)

But I'm not sure if only java &gt;= 1.7 is concerned or java &gt; 1.6.0.26.
If it's the latter, we should perhaps remove sun/oracle java completely
from the repos since we are not able to provide any security updates for it.
People can either use openjdk - which is working fine here - or download

Ah, missed the bug report on this - but this only shows that the
average &quot;non-mailing-list-reader&quot; may not know about the issue at all.

Step 1: action ASAP as suggested in the bug report comment #13
(&quot;update&quot; the version in mga1 repos with a README.urpmi)
Step 2: after this is done give out a related warning (mailing list, forum).

As Dave Hodgins wrote in Bugzilla: &quot;It may be bad for beginner users,
but it's worse to leave them
with insecure software that is being actively exploited.&quot;
