> OK, then one possibility is to make KDE use defgault settings.
>
> KDE store user settings etc somewhere in the hidden folder .kde4
> in your home directory.
>
> Quick fix:
>
> *while NOT logged in as you user*, rename it, and then log in as
> you, and KDE will recreate it with default settings.
>
> Rename, do not delete!
>
A good habit to cultivate, which can save untold heartache and labour!

> If it works, think about if you want to copy back some
> applications files/data from the renamed folder. There are a lot of
> apps in ~/.kde4/share/apps notably the kmail folder if you store
> yourmail there.
>
> You wil then have made a fresh start of everything you did not
> copy back.
>
> Possibly instead of all above you could just rename whatever that
> folder is where KDE store its settings you have problem with...
> maybe ~/.kde4/share/config/ (again, while not logged in as you)
>
> I think you should try that first
>
> Someone more into KDE may fill in here...
>
> You might also want to try the KDE forum or search the web
>
Basically this is the right approach, IMO. However, most often such
problems are caused by configuration not by data or applications, so
I'd try renaming ~/.kde4/share/config before doing anything else. If
that works, identify configurations that are important to you and not
quick to regenerate, and start to copy them over. *BUT*, copy only
one item at a time, testing thoroughly before adding something else.
The configuration that has caused your problem should then become
obvious and the rest can be restored if necessary.
