I believe it has already been discussed and a board of directors will be
set up once the organization has been formed. Then, its members will
elected from active contributors to the life of Mageia on a yearly
basis. It will assure both a quick decision-making proccess and a
constant touch with a community - just like in any other democratic
formation.

Personally, I believe it's the most efficient model to start up with.

Well, my own opinion if that the best people to judge this are upstream
kernel developers, has the patch been submitted to LKLM, and how was it

&gt;<i> Board of director model:
</I>&gt;<i> A board made of the lead devs elected.
</I>&gt;<i> 3 persons elected to a board with limited terms, and everything is
</I>&gt;<i> decided on 2 out of 3 votes.
</I>&gt;<i> what about power struggle? Can a &quot;strong willed&quot; person take over?
</I>&gt;<i> The issue here is that the fewer the people at the top, the more
</I>&gt;<i> quickly the decisions are made. However, the fewer the people at the
</I>&gt;<i> top, the more likely that one person can take over it all.
</I>
I believe it has already been discussed and a board of directors will be
set up once the organization has been formed. Then, its members will
elected from active contributors to the life of Mageia on a yearly
basis. It will assure both a quick decision-making proccess and a
constant touch with a community - just like in any other democratic
formation.

Personally, I believe it's the most efficient model to start up with.

Hello,

no need to port it to python but what is planned is to create interactive::qt with the qt4/kde4 perl bindings. This will require less work than recoding in python because there is not just the UI that is in perl but all the libDrak.

&gt;<i> Le 20/09/2010 21:14, Florian Hubold a &#233;crit :
</I>&gt;<i> &gt; AFAIK mandriva packages are not optimized/built for i686
</I>&gt;<i> &gt; (anything above Pentium Pro) but for i586. And i suppose
</I>&gt;<i> &gt; that's not gonna change.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> If I remember well, the long i586/i686 debate on cooker has been
</I>&gt;<i> terminated with 2 facts : there are no massive improvements on software
</I>&gt;<i> X (I don't remember which one) and we have to keep compatibility with
</I>&gt;<i> some netbooks (OEM with mandriva).
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> If mageia doesn't target these netbooks and if you can show real
</I>&gt;<i> improvement, I think this can be discussed.
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Have a nice day
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>Well, since we are *not* that linked to Mandriva, we could avoid this
problem by producing a netbook edition if needed. Why restricting our work
to i586/x86-64?

For some programs, there is a significant boost in using sse/sse2 (for
instance the mlt library, povray rendering, etc).

I've enabled them explicitly in mandriva some time ago in the x86-64 build,
and it should be the default there. If some arch do not comply to the &quot;sse2&quot;
demand, then we can discuss this on a &quot;specific basis, but not limit
everyone on this...

</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> AFAIK mandriva packages are not optimized/built for i686
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> (anything above Pentium Pro) but for i586. And i suppose
</I>&gt;&gt;&gt;<i> that's not gonna change.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>If I remember well, the long i586/i686 debate on cooker has been
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>terminated with 2 facts : there are no massive improvements on software
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>X (I don't remember which one) and we have to keep compatibility with
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>some netbooks (OEM with mandriva).
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>If mageia doesn't target these netbooks and if you can show real
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>improvement, I think this can be discussed.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>Have a nice day
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>Well, since we are *not* that linked to Mandriva, we could avoid this problem by producing a netbook &gt;edition if needed. Why restricting our work to i586/x86-64?
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>For some programs, there is a significant boost in using sse/sse2 (for instance the mlt library, povray &gt;rendering, etc).
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>I've enabled them explicitly in mandriva some time ago in the x86-64 build, and it should be the &gt;default there. If some arch do not comply to the &quot;sse2&quot; demand, then we can discuss this on a &quot;specific &gt;basis, but not limit everyone on this...
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>Stef
</I>
Wikipedia says that X86_64 include SSE/SSE2. All the new processors are 64 bits. So I don't think it is necessary to change i586 to i686. 32 bits platform will die soon. Also it is more important to keep more compatibility for 32 bits.

Sounds exciting. But don't sure about pure Qt4. Perhaps KDE can do it better

It will looks like KDE4 System Settings. Perhaps control center can even be

I belive it won't be a challenge and will looks like native for KDE users

Various wheels are in motion with regards to infrastructure setup.
Details of this and the progress etc. will be released very soon.

It's a matter of timing to a degree. We probably would have preferred to
have things more setup and arranged prior to announcement, but in order
to ensure the community was not disillusioned by the lay offs and lack
of public statement regarding direction and plan within Mandriva itself
we had to make an announcement sooner rather than later.

Various legal stuff has to happen now (formation of an association etc.)
and then various other things will follow.

Like I say, there should be some announcement about this very soon.

</I>&gt;<i> Cheers,
</I>&gt;<i> Govind
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Hello,
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> no need to port it to python but what is planned is to create interactive::qt with the qt4/kde4 perl bindings. This will require less work than recoding in python because there is not just the UI that is in perl but all the libDrak.
</I>
I understand. But I was pointing to python as it has good support for
QT4 bindings with pyQT or pyKDE in addition to pyGTK. I thought
Perl-QT was not being maintained well. If there is a current Perl::QT
then it is good news. I will read about this.

</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> Hello,
</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> no need to port it to python but what is planned is to create interactive::qt with the qt4/kde4 perl bindings. This will require less work than recoding in python because there is not just the UI that is in perl but all the libDrak.
</I>
I understand. But I was pointing to python as it has good support for
QT4 bindings with pyQT or pyKDE in addition to pyGTK. I thought
Perl-QT was not being maintained well. If there is a current Perl::QT
then it is good news. I will read about this.

<PRE>it is my understanding that currently perl-GTK is being used for all
drakxtools. if a suitable perl-QT exists and possibly a compatibility layer in
between (which could work with both), then i see no issue about this.

reading Mandriva's latest statement, they seem to want better KDE integration,
possibly they will not be using any GTK anymore to reduce workload.

We could possibly let Mandriva handle this and get their version of it; or
even work together on that. but _IMHO_, it's not a priority for mageia.

<PRE>Sorry if this looks like I am trying to hijack the thread.

Could we all agree that Anne Nicola be the official spokesperson for the
Mageia project? If so, Anne could then add to her signature an

It is pretty obvious on both of these threads that people have assumed

I have also noticed that Anne has changed emails quite a few times. Is
