 Today NetworkManager was able to connect to the hotel's SSID (though
MGA3-B2 still fails to connect).
  
Seems the signal strength (44%, acc. to NetworkManager) is marginal for
success with MGA3-A2, but too low for MGA3-B2, whereas MGA2 has no problem.

So some variability between the 3 versions w.r.t. senstivity to WiFi
signal strength...
