So akonadi-googledata & later akonadi-google simply provides an answer for calendar/contacts support in kde. Also end users might not be able to configure « easily » the caldav agent while it's easy to enter your login/passwd for this instead of adding the « long url » & especially do not forget the "/" . One more thing is that i'm not sure you have access to « non local » calendar via caldav (it's possible via akonadi-google). Just a question, which arch are you using ?
