I'm as studborn as you are because I used phonon-xine too !

For Mandriva having tested beta and rc livecd I proposed to use Xine
instead of gstreamer on livecd as a solution  (no need to add several
plugins)
I was replied what mikala just said :

> phonon-xine is deprecated by upstream and not maintained any more.
