+Hmm - the reason I thought I would have to is that attempting ifdown
+brings up a message that it is controlled by NM and therefore the

+took it out of NM and put it back when I'd finished.

+Anyway, thanks to the hints here, I realised that I didn't have a
+configuration file for eth0:temp, so I created one based on the eth0
+one, and it worked perfectly.

+Back to trying to figure out the various server options :-)
