Yes I found that removing the interface from the control of network
manager works fine. Using the ath9k driver by default. Initially I
discovered by accident that the wireless regulatory domain needed to be
set to GB, then things started to happen. The flakiness appears to be a
hardware problem. In the same location my laptop worked at link levels
of 60% or so. The X51 reported 61-62% and kept dropping out. Moved the
test rig downstairs, close to the router and wireless connections have
remained steady all the time, link levels 82% - 100%, downloads at up to
38 MBps over cable.

Fantastic. Mageia just updated Firefox to 10.0.4. Meanwhile, Mozilla

Well, we are using Mozilla's ESR version of Firefox, so it's going to be
10.0.x for some time now, until they release new version of ESR. 17, if

That's not 100% true :) Distribution has longer support. At one point
Mageia 2 will get Fx17 (or whatever is the next ESR), maybe even Mageia
1, if it's still supported at the time when 10.0 ESR will be at its EOL.

iinm there is overlap, it's not because 17 is released that 10 is EOL.

otoh there is the possibility of LTS for us too.

but let's cross that bridge when we get to it.

Absolutely (for once the FHS is sensible here :D).

But it's more of a practical consideration at the moment. Some apps do
indeed store large data here... so we'd need to do this kind of thing
early on in the cycle, not last minute.

I think Fedora will ultimately do this, as will SuSE, so I don't see any
problem with it in principle.
