Hello,

The process was clear directly at the begining, nothing hidden (on mageia's
blog), a decision is made so from the board and all we know that is impossible
to have 100% opinion pro of such subjective subject. If you have > 50% you can

I want to point to skiper's blog, who gave the whole "Logo" issue some
thought. It is titled, "Mageia logo - I don't like it".

But what he writes is very different from the usual "I don't like it,
it's ugly" posts. I explains in detail why he does not like it and why
he thinks it is not a good choice based on objective reasons. Although
I do not share his opinion I want to give credit to him because he did

BTW: He explicitely states that he does not complain about the
decision finding process.

I agree to that, absolutely. - Basically...

However it might be an idea to have KDE-only related discussions on a
sub-forum at KDE.

If so it should be clearly stated on Mageia main forum that KDE related
questions should be postet there, and link to there.

(and a sticky post a KDE sub forum sould tell users to post oter questions @
Mageia, link)

Having such sub forum @ KDE gives:

1) Mageia users more easily get to read tips, workarounds whatever regarding
KDE

2) Mageia get a bit more visibility, hopefully attracting users and maybe
developers.

Interesting that he makes exactly the same criticism that I made during
the selection process : the logo is too simple.
Anyway, it is done.

( But his criticism did make me think that we could turn it into a nest,

Yep, good reading, but IMHO a logo it's just a logo, though I had
preferred it to be more refined or cool too. But I think there is room
for 3D improvements maybe. At the first sight such logo appeared to me
as a "fish". Regarding the comments, the logo is something which should
immediately represent a product or a brand (even if you don't attach a
script), that's because called logo. The compass based logo sound cool,
but IMHO it represent at first sight a well painted compass.

Anyway once you see the logo several times at once you'll soon identify
it with the product. IMHO this is the power of a logo. A good experiment
could be: take all the distro logo (e.g. from distrowatch) in random
order then try to identify to which brand they own...

Bye
Giuseppe.

the problem with sub-communities (even i18n) is that you need someone who
wants to manage is and be a bridge between mageia and the sub-community.

I do agree that it seems like it'd be easier if there is only 1 item /
division; but if all the sub-communities are managed well and have good
connections to it's parent; then i see no problem.

one could argue that someone who is bridging; could also be doing other
usefull stuff.

otoh, if that KDE person wants to be the bridge, and she can handle it, she
can do it, imho.

if it's "official" or not... well that's another question ...

Guys,

Obs: excuse my poor english, with the help (and the errors) of the tool-google
languages.

I think the logo Mageia is great.

Many years ago I was impressed with the millions of dollars spent by
Sony to make its logo, which resulted in nothing more than its simple name..
Was a surprise to me, so much money for just that. Now I understand that
simplicity of the logo can be a great advantage.

And I think that's not right to compare the new and raw mageia logo with the
logos already mature and polished after years of work and very money from big
companies.

The Mageia Linux community formed by volunteers and not by a company, I don't
see reason to change the logo or make another selection process. I think this
is a waste of time and effort (and ignores the work already done) and does not
educate, because, in my opinion, the selection process was transparent and
democratic and the outcome was appropriate.

So, congratulations to the team by Mageia overcome all these steps
organization of infrastructure and logo - which in my view is excellent -
Now, come to what is really essential: continue to organize everything
necessary to launch the alpha version of the Linux distribution mageia.

Hugs.

***************************************

Pessoal,

Mandriva entered the world named "Mandrake", after Mandrake the
Magician, a syndicated newspaper comic strip. The original logo
featured a top hat, magic wand and a star.

"Mandrake the Magician" is however protected by copyright, so a name
change was in order. With the merger of Connective and Mandrake,
Mandriva was born.

I suppose they kept the star as a link to the Mandrake heritage and
since the copyright-infringing items were the name, top hat and wand,
but not the star, keeping the star was OK. The original name survives
in the drak* tools.
