+Not sure if this is relevant but I had the same problem and looks like 
+the solution for the laptop I was servicing was this (I left this on the 
+thread that I had started on the user mailing list[1]):

+Just letting people know of the fix for this unit.
+
+The laptop's owner returned it so that I could work on a possible fix to 
+the wifi connection. After some testing and trouble shooting, I deleted 
+the NetworkManager through the MCC which allowed a more reliable 
+connection and I also created this file in  etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf 
+with the line "options ath9k nohwcrypt=1" which for some unknown reason 
+made for an even more solid connection <-- I found this recommendation 
+on a thread somewhere but lost the location.

+The laptop now connects to the internet and does not turn itself out, 
+and, it no longer cuts in and out randomly.
