+I've wondered about this a fair bit myself.
+I think the thought was that if everything from mdv2010.1/2 was replaced 
+by packages from mga1, then everything should work.
+However, a lot of packages from mdv2010.1 didn't make it to mga1, so on 
+reflection, I would say that this option could well increase the 
+likelihood of problems.
+Particularly things like missing/ differently configured drivers, 
+packages that depend on particular versions of other packages, etc.
