KDM is going to be redone soon as well ~1 week.

Hi.
I saw the graphic made by alexn83, they are awesome.
Personally I think Mageia will be beautiful.
Are there any decisions about default theme for gnome ?
I'm using Equinox Light
(http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Equinox+GTK+Engine?content=121881)
and as far I saw it look very close to what alexn83 proposed as
installer theme ?
Maybe it could be used as theme for stage2 and Gnome ?

not prevent the team to hold it! so, as a reminder: 17:00 UTC (19:00
Paris time) on #mageia-artwork.

Topics:
 * beta1 has been released yesterday - not so many feedback so far but
it looks like installer and bootstrap are all fine by now. Congrats!
Still, there's now room for another round of review to refine even
further.

 * now the other big important part is: refreshing the icons set for
the Control Center (and other apps in the soft/ repository: see
http://svnweb.mageia.org/soft/ - I don't have the full extracted list
of icons there, but that should be task one, or apps to be taken one
by one and seen with the packager.

 * open topics

 * I'd like to see someone take the lead/representative seat at the
Council for this team - Mageia 1 finale is not here yet, but it's a
good time to start to seriously think about this.

Cheers,

Romain

Forget the check, just reconvert the image, if the quality drop isn't
bad it will be ok. 90/100 of 90/100 still isn't a big drop. Especially

 +
Hey there,

I probably wont be able to attend to the upcoming meeting. I'll try, but
can't promise it. So I'd like to sum up the last meeting and status of
my current work.

The last meeting:
Here is the meeting summary:
http://meetbot.mageia.org/mageia-artwork/2011/mageia-artwork.2011-04-06-17.21.html

We were quite satisfied with the new release. Installer, Background,
boot process looks pretty good. Congrats to all of you! AlexN83 will
also try to make replacement for the kde/gnome icons during the
installation (where you choose your preferred DE).
(Note: Background of ISOLINUX still refers to alpha, but I haven't found
the location on SVN yet)

There are a lot of icons to replace of rework. Most of them rely on the
mcc. AlexN created a lot of well looking proposals (see summary links)
but there are still a few missing.
I promised to create a list of all icons with it proposals (if
available). So far, I only created a list with the locations of
(hopefully) all these icons:
http://mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=artwork:icons:mcc

The last topic has been team leadership. We didn't come to a conclusion
last week and postponed the decision for the next meeting. So far, we
aren't aware of the work of such a team leader and wanted to use the
week for reflecting if one of us candidate or not.
So, as you may see, we still need a volunteers for this job. Any proposals?

Bugs for beta1 (well, seems to be only):
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=661

Please make sure, you bring yourself on the wiki, with your current work
and extend the table with things to do.
http://mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=designers

Regards,
Thorsten

* about "sensitive data": is better to send an e-mail directely to my e-mail
adress (this)

- proposals to be added in the marketing plan

They should contain ideas about:
 * Vision (which needs mageia project should satisfy in a long-term
horizont?)
 * Mission (how can be satisfied these long-term needs in a mid-term
horizont?)
 * possible strategies (what can be done to satisfy these mid-term needs?)
 * action plan (which aspects should be improved in a short term horizont?)
 * threats and opportunities of the project

attention.

All of these bugs are in the NEW or REOPENED state, and have not been
touched in 7 days or more.
You need to take a look at them, and decide on an initial action.

Generally, this means one of three things:

(1) You decide this bug is really quick to deal with (like, it's INVALID),
and so you get rid of it immediately.
(2) You decide the bug doesn't belong to you, and you reassign it to
someone else. (Hint: if you don't know who to reassign it to, make
sure that the Component field seems reasonable, and then use the
    "Reset Assignee to default" option.)
(3) You decide the bug belongs to you, but you can't solve it this moment.
Accept the bug by setting the status to ASSIGNED.

To get a list of all NEW/REOPENED bugs, you can use this URL (bookmark

[Mageia-artwork] Artwork needed ASAP

Hi folks,

We need to generate a graphic for Damien's rollup banner. The visual
size of the graphic is to be 80cm x 200 cm, and it's needed by next
Monday (18-04) at the latest.

http://www.france-banderole.com/kakemonos/ has the type Damien needs;
the graphic size is 80x200, but there will need to be some extra
length for mounting at either end, if you have continuous colour or
a gradient or pattern at the ends - around 10cm at the top and around
30cm at the bottom. You can use the full 80cm of width, they print
edge-to-edge.

If the marcomm team can see some mockups by tomorrow night or
Saturday, we can start generating text to go on it.

We need something generic Mageia, for outings to conferences/shows,
that we can keep using - it needs to be visually enticing so people
will stop and look at it, with a big enough graphic to be easily
visible from a distance.

We're looking forward to seeing your suggestions!

Cheers,

[This e-mail has been automatically generated.]

You have one or more bugs assigned to you in the Bugzilla bug tracking system (https://bugs.mageia.org/) that require

To get a list of all NEW/REOPENED bugs, you can use this URL (bookmark
it if you like!):
https://bugs.mageia.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_status=REOPENED&assigned_to=mageia-artwork@mageia.org

Or, you can use the general query page, at
https://bugs.mageia.org/query.cgi

Appended below are the individual URLs to get to all of your NEW bugs
that haven't been touched for 7 days or more.

You will get this message once a day until you've dealt with these bugs!

I haven't dug through the code in detail, but skimming through
/usr/lib/libDrakx/interactive.pm, I get the impression that the
difference in icon reflects whether or not there is a separate
configuration wizard, that requires an X server, which harddrake2
will have to spawn/wait for.

It doesn't appear to be related to broken/working, like in the
windows device manager.

well, i haven't used windows in 8 years, so i can't account for that, but if
there are 2 different icons next to hardware, and the one looks like an X, i
assume it's because it's broken. perhaps something more obvious could be
chosen:

a small dot for something normal and a green arrow pointing east for one which
has a separate configuration. or you could use the same arrow and gray it out
or something.

Hey everyone, I thought I would give an update on some of the things
that I have been doing.

Kspalsh; is done and sorted
Gsplash; appears to not exist and upstream have deleted it. So a
decision on that is still needed.

KDM; requires a fix on the default backgrounds
GDM; not sure about it, check later

Backgrounds; there are a number of wrongs symlinks and a few other
parts could be cleaned out. Also an update on backgrounds-extra? A
decision for final on whither or not we go with static or dynamic
backgrounds should be made. As the current dynamic setup adds load on
the system for nothing as all the images are the same with no
progression.

Sadly I cant attend the next meeting, so it would be great if you
could discuss the static/dynamic issue, if we choose dynamic I have
the new images ready to upload.

I feel that we should choose dynamic as it is a feature that not many
other desktops have, and provides a nice feel to the system.

Well, there was a very short meeting yesterday:
http://meetbot.mageia.org/mageia-artwork/2011/mageia-artwork.2011-04-20-18.01.html

We were only 3 members (me, alexn and tumbeliina).
But without much output. As written in the last summary I created a list
of mcc icons and have to put some love into ;)
Alexn83 will do replacements for them (he did already a lot) but for the
rest of the icons he need more time. He will try to finish all icons
until the final release of Mageia 1.

The last week, we get the request of creating a poster for exhibitions
and events (with no reaction of us :-/). Alexn did already one for the
"Chemnitzer Linux Tage" in Germany:
http://ubuntuone.com/p/f1f/
Also tumbeliina has worked on some proposals and will them show to us in
the next days.
I think a layout which fits the current website layout would be great.

To the open bugs:
Bug 472 has a confusing title, because it initially aimed to the old
grey background, which has been replaced. The problem for now is, that
the font for the username and password writing is black with a dark
background. So, only the font colour has to be adapt.

The user bug (270) will be solved with the replacement of the mcc icons.
I will use the day tomorow to get an overview about the existing icons
alexn83 did and seek adequate replacements for them, but I can't promise
anything for now.

An other point is: Artwork team is still very small.
I thought on Nino Pinhiero as a gain for the team, if he is willing to.
At the beginning of Mageia he did some proposals, so maybe he will. I
will try to contact him during the next days.

So far so good

Probably a theme switch has to be done during the upgrade (from
Mandriva-Free/One/Pwp/Flash -> Mageia-Default).
The are elements form the Mageia theme (like the timer, the config file, ...)
but at least the background is still the old one.

Summary: Things to do for plymouth
           Product: Mageia
           Version: Cauldron
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Normal
         Component: RPM Packages
        AssignedTo: mageia-artwork at mageia.org
        ReportedBy: tvl83 at gmx.de
       RPM Package: mageia-theme-Default

This bug report is to get an overview of the current work for plymouth and
coordinate them and will probably most effect the artwork team:

Needed for release:
* replace lock icon (see attachment) -> Schulz or dmorgen?
* rework background image without the "Only for testing" phrase (maybe replace
it with "Mageia 1") -> Alexn83?

Wishes:
* Fading in and out during suspend and resume (shadow.png already available but
the opacity has to be modified) -> TeaAge

That's it.
Please comment here, if you are working on one of this issues. I tried to
assign names to each task, but feel free to attend to one, when you are
comfortable with it.

Regards,
TeaAge

Sorry I missed the meeting, weather was to nice to be inside!

With the backgrounds, not all of those resolution listed in the wiki
are needed as symlinks are made to many of them. See makefile. The
required ones are in the mageia-theme package.(currently minus a few I
think although not sure if we need them)

I have added ones with a darkness progression for the time of the day
transition, so that will help with contrast in all but the late
morning/early afternoon times.
Do we want to have the same background for Mageia 1 as we have in
Cauldren? I think changing it would be good as the current one looks a
little hackish, in a good way for Couldren, just not for final.

Ksplash is done, but could be refined, I will test a small program
mikala compiled for me just now to fix a small issue with it. I have
also made a dark ksplash and plymouth, maybe we could offer as
alternatives?
As for gsplash, is mageia-dev the best place to reach the gnome devs?
I need there input on how to proceed with it.

I see the following (fast) solutions:
1. We use the current one and invert the colors. Would look like this:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/cZLcXCTQb0wda752EbuM6cWFIzFZ2BaC21XF10gWwzE?feat=directlink
2. We use a different available wallpaper of Alex. For example this one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/54316230@N06/5410392701/in/photostream

(yes, the labels have to be modified for the release)

3. Use something different, like this one (very dark):
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Sh_GexPv2D7YJFqdM3lnZMWFIzFZ2BaC21XF10gWwzE?feat=directlink

Further proposals are more than welcome, as a dark theme doesn't fit the
taste of the mass!

However, if we change the wallpaper, we have to modify splash and login
manager too. That's ok, as we have a contrast problem there too. But
that's schulzs (Donald Stewart) turn, I guess?

Considering that gfxboot and plymouth are the same, but kdm, (gdm?),
ksplash and backgrounds are different, I feel that some unification is
required as the generally theme seems slightly fractured. So maybe
while we're sorting out the background and whatnot we fix that too?

I really like the dark image image and the inverted one, however, I
thinks that that is too dark.
Was there ever a decision made about the colour scheme that we should
base things on? If not, how does something purple sound, as I don't
know of a purple Linux distro, if not, Mdv have moved away from blue
so we could take that.

Hey there,

there was a bit of bustle today because of the background image.
The current one is to bright, which doesn't work well with a light taskbar and
also with the white font.

The idea now, is to replace the background with the blue pattern AlexN used
for the plymouth and gfxboot theme. This one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/54316230@N06/5425490722/in/photostream

This for, we get a uniformed look form the installer, over boot process, to
the desktop.

Are there any complains about it or (better) ideas?

Furthermore, I've created an extra wallpaper, which matchs the theme of our
website:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/LF2rMMH7tlU7M3bzQ6CCxsWFIzFZ2BaC21XF10gWwzE?feat=directlink
or, a bit darker (my favorite):
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/46amsd_WQUxCDhGI5Vl7TcWFIzFZ2BaC21XF10gWwzE?feat=directlink

Is everyone ok if we go for the dark one for dm splash and background?
If so, can you post the svg file and I can get the necessary bit

Gnome and LXDE havn't been forgotton, gnome just uses default bg and

I like this image very much also...
Some points:

- I understand that having some corporate image in the login (kdm, gdm)
window is desired, but don't forget that gdm or kdm hide the center of
  the screen.
- Continuity between boot steps is a pretty nice feature...
- I don't know if it happens to more people, but I find complex backgrounds
very distracting and hurt my eyes. If there are big letters or extreme
color changes in the background it annoys me. I could never put a portrait
of my children as background as many people do ;).

This is just a quick'n'dirty mockup:
- plymouth: http://webdiis.unizar.es/~magallon/mga/mga1.jpg
- gdm: http://webdiis.unizar.es/~magallon/mga/mga2.jpg
- desktop background: http://webdiis.unizar.es/~magallon/mga/mga3.jpg

So you fade smoothly from plymouth to gdm to default BG on login.

That would be great, but before you do, do we want to use it as the default bg?
Its annoying that gimp cant save to svg.
the mageia logo at the bottom, that is just the default one turned
grey and transparent?
I the logo is a separate layer it will help a lot, as a separate logo
is needed for ksplash.

I also think it is the best of what was proposed. My ideas were (where I
write 'should' or 'must', please read 'from my point of view' ;) ):

- The name and logo must be present in the background.
- The transition from plymouth to dm must be smooth (even, if it is
possible, from grub to plymouth, but I think there is a short period
where kernel boot messages are on screen...).
- The center of the screen is the worst place to place the logo, as
dm's put their login/userlist dialog there, over the logo.

So... change everything in this way:
- use the same image (blue grid)
- put the logo at the bottom of the screen (upper 2/3, filled with
grid, lower 1/3, half grid/half silver with the cauldron and name).
- put the dots (or any progress graphics) in the central third
- on boot, the dots just fade into the gdm/kdm login dialog.
- for (if) smooth change is also possible from grub to plumouth, use
the same bg and put the grub os list at the top.
- if the grid is also the default desktop bg, you also get a smooth
transition from dm to user desktop.
