Conclusions:
The init scripts in hylafax are not systemd compatible.
Bug filed.

Now my question(s).

Can anyone help me get the systemd files setup to respawn faxgetty on
ttyS0 ( or ttys1) ?
I kinda have an idea, but that and $1.50 might get you a cup of coffee.

I have looked at the default serial-getty files, but am not sure what to
change or to do a completely new file.

I think it would be better to create a new file.

Systemd files are all over the place ( /var/lib /etc and maybe other
places. ) some are symlinks some not.
Some are template files ( I think I have those figured out ).

more explicitly:
Need enuf info to create faxgetty.service file(s).
Need enuf info to create faxq.service file.
Need to know where to put the files.

Maybe having that info I can start to better understand what I'm doing.

Be happy to supply any additional info requested.

Thx

Jim

For this to work you generally need a colour-calibrated monitor.

You can buy an &quot;open source&quot; calibrator called the colourhug (or might
be colorhug) to do this.

If you are scanning things to get your image then you need to calibrate
your scanner, using a &quot;colour target&quot; or photo card. ArgyleCMS (open
source) can help you with this, but calibrate your monitor first.

Then, you need to calibrate your printer, with the inks and paper you
plan to use. One way to do this is to print the scan of the photo card,
once you have calibrated your scanner. Then scan the printout and use
argyleCMS to generate a profile.

Also, note that each device - scanner, camera, monitor, printer - has a
range of colours it can print, called its &quot;gamut&quot;, and the ranges are
not the same.

Some open source software, such as darktable and possible gimp with the
separate+ plugin, may be able to point out which colours are out of
gamut for the target device, I'm not sure.

xsane has colour management support once you have a colour profile.

You can actually get a long way more cheaply and simply by looking
for .icc or .icm files (the colour profiles describing a device) for
your printer and monitor, but since there's huge variation both with age
of device and between devices, it's not really a good idea.

</I>&gt;&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;&gt;<i> All I can tell you at this point is that if the printer prints well with

</I>&gt;&gt;<i> Buying a new printer will probably not make any difference.
</I>&gt;&gt;<i>

</I>&gt;<i>
</I>&gt;<i> there is:

</I>&gt;<i> - graphic driver
</I>&gt;<i> - monitor color calibration
</I>&gt;<i> - monitor itself (or it's age)

I have an LCD monitor. This old man is strictly a user. I was hoping
that someone that was using an HP in Mageia with good results might
provide a model number. I am completely lost by all the technical
specifications listed for each printer. My needs are simple. I want to
be able to use it as a copier and most important, is color printing that
matches within reason the colors on my monitor. My current printer is
not mageia compatible. Monitor color calibration will not correct it.
Help appreciated.
Thanks, Gary

A google search shows lots of people, including people happy with the HP

You need to calibrate the monitor properly, so that it displays the
colours that will print.

If you use the printer as a copier, do the colours come out different
from the original?

Without saying in much more detail what problems you are having, we are
trying to use telepathy to read your mind and guess, and it's not
working ;-)

Why do you say this? You may be right, but without knowing what is not
work,ing we can't help.

Some possible problems you might be having:
* you scan an image and the reds come out as blue, and the blues come
out as red.
* you scan an image and the resolution is too low
* you can't scan an image at all
* you print and it comes out in black and white, not colour
* you are printing on office paper and the output is too dark
* you are printing on photopaper and the result is too light
* colours are too saturated when you print
* colours are too light when you print
* you can't print a full-page image
* when you press the copy button on the printer, the upstairs toilet
flushes.

Does the printer work OK on OS X or Windows? If so, with which colour
profile?

Come on, give us a clue :-)

consider this:

most printer/scanner/copiers, have a copy button that works without any
computer attached.

to find out if the printer or computer is not at fault, you can just copy a
page.

then as a second test, scan the same page using computer, and look at
difference, then print it out again.

with these 3, you can see that there can be alot of difference. even for normal
users.

but most likely will the copied page and the scanned and printed out one will
look the same.

i'm guessing the monitor is the most likely the one to be wrong in showing the
color, it's also the most difficult one to get right. I've never been able to do
it.
