Most people do not want to install a DVD. + +That's the same here. Most people like the "installable live cd" approach. +Especially those with poor bandwidth which are not so few even in +"industrially civilized countries" :) + +I did not say that "demo" was the only purpose of the live cd, but it +is an important asset in the evaluation stage of the user. Giving a +live CD to an interested Windows user is the best way to demonstrate +the distribution. He boots the live system and should be able to view +it in live mode in his language without searching for a cable +connection. +BTW: You know when is the best time to check such kind of cds? When +travelling! But while travelling in a long distance train or plane you +do not have internet access (well, not always). Or when sitting in a +street café or on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll in. + +Although such scenarios are different for many, the situations I +described are often enough to be taken into account. We are far away +from "internet everyhwere all the time", but at the same time we are +using computers more and more while out of reach of a cable +connection. So there has to be a localized view for the user without +being tied to an internet connection. + +What is so hard in keeping the Mandriva approach (2 / 3 different cds +with language groups)? Arabic being reserved for other subjects. +As well, French is widely used in Lebanon. +There are certainly other languages missing on the "One" CDs. + +Perhaps a better solution to the perceived problem is to provide a very +accessible description listing the languages on the particular "One" CD. +Now the user has to check the contents of a file describing the various +ISOs, which is not necessarily obvious to the uninitiated. +These descriptions could also elaborate on other content of the ISO in +question. + +- André +
+ + +
+

+ +
Previous message: [Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases +
+
Next message: [Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases +
+
Messages sorted by: + [ date ] + [ thread ] + [ subject ] + [ author ] +
+
+ +
+More information about the Mageia-dev +mailing list
+

diff --git a/zarb-ml/mageia-dev/20101025/001355.html b/zarb-ml/mageia-dev/20101025/001355.html new file mode 100644 index 000000000..db2666aa4 --- /dev/null +++ b/zarb-ml/mageia-dev/20101025/001355.html @@ -0,0 +1,97 @@ + +
+
+
[Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases +
+
+
+ + +
+
+
+
+
[Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases
+ Wolfgang Bornath + <A HREF="mailto:mageia-dev%40mageia.org?Subject=Re%3A%20%5BMageia-dev%5D%20Suggestion-Locales%20management%20for%20One%20%28or%20Live%29%20Cd%0A%09releases&In-Reply-To=%3CAANLkTi%3DrrWHncVRFmoZFC97Q379COPN5%2BBrX3sVVUZi5%40mail.gmail.com%3E" + TITLE="[Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases">molch.b at googlemail.com +
+ Mon Oct 25 16:13:28 CEST 2010 +

+
Previous message: [Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases +
+
Next message: [Mageia-dev] Suggestion-Locales management for One (or Live) Cd releases +
+
Messages sorted by: + [ date ] + [ thread ] + [ subject ] + [ author ] +
+
+
+ +
2010/10/25 atilla ontas <tarakbumba at gmail.com>: +> +> Well. for those reasons: +> +> - [Mirror side] Waste of space (see discussions about mirrors; i know +> you' re one of the mirror maintainer, don't you?)
